Magic Words

In this activity, students will practice polite expressions used in daily life. They will match everyday situations with the correct sentence to say. This helps students build good manners in English and understand when to use common expressions such as greetings, requests, and polite responses.

Matching Game: Magic Words

  • The teacher starts with a warm-up following the whiteboard suggested topics.
  • Review all situation cards once and read them aloud together.
  • Review all expression cards (Good morning, Excuse me, Can I join?, etc.) and have students repeat.
  • Lay all cards face up on the table and shuffle them.
  • Students or teams race to match one situation card with the correct expression card.
  • When making a match, the student must read both parts aloud to earn points.
  • Continue until all pairs are matched.
  • Review the correct matches together as a class.
