Smart Food Choices

In this activity, students will learn how to make smart food choices by sorting foods into two categories: Everyday Foods and Treat Foods. They will practice food vocabulary while learning that a balanced diet includes nutritious foods every day and treats once in a while.

Sorting Game: Everyday Foods or Treat Foods?

  • The teacher starts with a warm-up following the whiteboard suggested topics.
  • Review all food vocabulary together.
  • Place two category cards on the floor: EVERYDAY FOODS and TREAT FOODS.
  • Spread all food picture cards on the table or floor.
  • Students take turns choosing one food card.
  • Students decide which category the food belongs to.
  • Students place the card under the correct category.
  • Encourage students to explain their choices using the key phrase.
  • Review all answers together at the end.
