Hard or Soft Materials

In this activity, students explore different materials by touching and sorting objects into hard or soft categories. They will use common classroom items and simple vocabulary to describe how objects feel. This activity helps students observe materials closely while practicing speaking and classification skills in English.

Sorting Game: Hard or Soft Materials

  • The teacher starts with a warm-up following the whiteboard suggested topics.
  • Make two large labels (HARD and SOFT) and place on the table or floor:
  • Review several classroom objects together.
  • Show one object at a time.
  • Students move around the classroom and find objects and put them to under the correct label.
  • Students say “It is hard” or “It is soft.”
  • Review all answers together at the end.
